Do short people really have no reason, to date?

(wait for it)”… and I do like you..”.( wait for it)”… smart and funny…”( wait for it)”…blah,blah,blah. BUT…” . Peewee Herman once opinioned; ” Most of my friends have big buts.” For a long time my love life felt like a Chicago Cubs season; this is the one; it will work this time; yes, so close; D”OH. My losing streak is not at such epic proportions, yet, but you get the idea.

The excuse that is the most frustrating, and the one I begrudgingly understand, is that I am too short. It is true. I am 63 inches tall. Some would say that I don’t even qualify for short; that I have to be a few inches taller to be short. I am the guy that short guys look at and say to themselves ” It could be worse.” One of the more unfortunate aspects of my life is being a few inches too big for midget porn.

I went through the personals one time, not in search of a date, to test a theory of what woman want. I was excluded by height for over half the posts. In the end, I was not a dream candidate for any of the advertisers. I am short, pale and cute. While I am financially independent, I am unable to be anyone’s sugar daddy. It was hard to see relationships broken down to the point that the feeling of hopelessness was complete.

Whenever I talk to women, I must strike a balance between self-deprecation, confidence, humor, understanding, and no fear of rejection.  The best conversations are the ones when I know I have no shot. It is amazing how disarmed a 6 foot tall woman feels when I go up to her and tell her that the only thing standing between me and true love is a step ladder.

Dating is hard, no matter who you are. But for short guys it really tough. We are often treated, as though we are to blame for being short. If we are confident, we are seen as having a Napoleon complex. If we are not confident, we are weak.  It really is a no win situation, sometimes, but I don’t care. I found mine and the best part is; she is shorter than me.


It does not mean what you think it means.

Maybe it is because of the vastness of the Internet. Perhaps it is due to such a, seemingly, polarizing figure in the White House. It could be only the angry people respond. My guess is, political name calling is taboo in bars, schools, and polite society, so the people with the most vitriol ( and the least amount of sense) take to the anonymity of  comment boards and conspiracy websites; Obot, Lib, Libtard and Stupid fucking clueless Kool-aide drinker, are among my favorite names to be call.  It makes me wonder, what is the definition of liberal?

According to The Oxford English Dictionary, a Liberal is an adjective describing a person who is, ” willing to respect or accept behaviour or opinions different from one’s own; open to new ideas.”  The New American Dictionary’s definition is; ” open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values…. Favorable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms.” It seems even we can’t completely agree with the English on the definition.

But, that is not the point here. Why do people take a position and demonize with the utmost malice?  Birthers are the prime example. The manufacturing of evidence and the complete disregard for ideals that are stated as sacred, are the modus operandi of this group. I am beyond tired of it. I applaud the birther community for the allegiance to their own stupidity. If it wasn’t for fucked up people like them, I would question my intelligence far more often.


Does it have to be difficult?

I was sitting in the chair, feeling good, and she was beaming. Her smile made the purchase a little less daunting. All she could see was baby blue, a sparkiling ring,and a dream surprise. The thought that the last ring I bought took 2 twists and 50¢ made me smile. Until I saw the look.

Even though the language is a barrier, there is nothing mysterious about the look. The clerk’s eyes go down, and then to the side. I think they are trained for that, because after a moment they look at you, and search your face, wanting to see if you know their news. Card declined. I saw the smile leave my wife’s face, as she must have thought a Tiffany’s wedding ring was not really to be. I was confused. I was using my debit card, and I had the money in the bank The clerk must have seen the; ” Oh Fuck No, I have the money!!” look in my eye. I ended up making 3 charges on 2 cards to complete my wife’s ring. All was good. But still WTF?!?

I discovered that I am only allowed to access $2,000 a day from my account. My money, but the bank limits my access to it. That is not why I was mad. The anger stemmed from the fact that I did not know. I do not spend 2 grand at one time, but it would be nice to know that I could if I wanted to. I am 40 years old and my bank treats me like a Christmas Club customer because I am a foreigner.

I find that being in Korea challenges me in many ways. The most frustrating is the questions I didn’t even think to ask. I recently decided to get my Korean driver’s license. I checked with the government website, and a few other websites to find all the info I needed. The day before the test I was on the US embassy site, on an unrelated matter, and discovered a change in the license law. It seems that an American must go to the embassy and get a notary stating that the American license is valid. The notary is not a guarantee of the validity of the license though.

What?

It seems that there are too many things here that are difficult for the sake of being difficult, and I wonder if it is meant to protect or to frustrate.

Case in point: I have been in Korea for 2 years. The rules for being a native English teacher have changed 4 times during that time period. The last change, which is a good idea and far overdue, was for a national ( FBI) background check. That is great. It takes 3 months and $100 for that to be done from Korea, but once an FBI check is done I don’t need another one if I don’t leave Korea.

                                          UNLESS

 

you apply to the government/ public school system. To work in the public school you need an FBI check that is less than 6 months old. No matter how long you have been in Korea. Why? Because the government can not access the background check that is on file at Immigration ( which is the government.). They can contact my American landlords, employers, friends, creditors, teachers, and schools; but not Korean Immigration.

I just want to know why.Why does it have to be so difficult?


I am an Adult (?)

I have a job, for the next year at least. I hope. I have love. I think. I have a new lifestyle that has me feeling better, and behaving better, than I have in quite a while. I have turned a corner. Maybe.

Turning 40 in the upcoming year has a lot to do with it. It really is a turning point in life. It feels like I thought turning 21 would feel. A sense of responsibility has been washing over me lately, and it has less to do with past regret than future happiness. I am actually planning for what lies ahead.

Trying to look at the big picture, and not get sidetrack by the details, is how I am trying to navigate the world now. If life begins at 40, I want a headstart.


Should poor people have a lobbyist?

I have followed the Occupy movement from afar. Very afar, as I live in South Korea. I am torn in my feelings about the movement. On one hand, there is a definite reason for the protests. The economic inequality that is sanctioned by the government is obvious. That is why lobbyist get paid. To protect special interest. To be fair, lobbyist exist on each side of the aisle. Conservatism and Liberalism are buzzwords that people use to describe their social worldview.

The problem with the movement is; it is way too fragmented to be taken seriously. It seems like some people are there just to protest authority and/or The Establishment, which is a ridiculous notion. These are the people who question authority for no reason, save narcissism. It reminds me of people who use the phrase “ Do you know who I am?”.

Living in a foreign country really brings home how special living in America truly is. I love my country and, warts and all, to see it go down this road of impassable protest is disheartening. It is also sad to see politicians who care about election results over the common good. It is also sad to see people who view the freedoms that America affords, as a license to do anything they want, regardless of the effect on others. I will applaud cookie cutter individuality, as long as it is not used as an excuse to be an asshole.

There is a story from England, which I admire very much, the details are a little fuzzy, but the gist should be understood. In the early 20th century a man was elected to a high position in Parliament. This man was from a port city. It was assumed that the man would have the city’s best interest in mind in all governmental manners. He resisted. He told his constituency that they did elect him, but they elected him to do what was best for England, not just one town. He did not win re-election, but he did what was good for country.

My hope for the new year is that the 300+ million in my country start to understand that the common good is more important than special interest. Sometimes it means more to exercise civility and understanding, than individual expression and perceived rights.


Innyon

This a  Korean word, which translates to the connection between 2 people destined to meet. In Hangul, the word looks like this;

I really like this word. The reason is; the woman I will be marrying in 3 weeks. If I followed advice, or even my normal sense of common sense, I would never have meet her. At least, in the way we met. I met my, soon to be, wife online. On Korean Cupid .com, to be specific.

It was my first foray into internet dating. I researched, and came away with a good list of guidelines. Creating a free profile seemed like a good way to start. After a couple months, I received a message from the site saying that someone had sent me an email, and if I wanted to see it I could buy an upgrade. It was a message I had gotten a couple of other times, but when I looked at the profiles of the senders I was not impressed.

It was different with her. I was drawn to what she wrote. She had no picture, but that was not a problem. For some reason, with her I threw away the guidelines. We ended up emailing each other for 6 months before we met in person. I knew before meeting that I liked her, and I thought she liked me, but it was strange to actually meet for the first time.

We decided to hook up in a city equally distant from both of our homes. It was strange to sit outside the bus station; watching women walk outside and thinking; A) “ Yes.” B) “ she is cute, maybe…” C) “ oh god, if that is her I will be running the fastest mile ever.”  Of course, none of the above happened. She was very easy on the eyes, with a great smile.

It was the perfect first date. It lasted all day and all night. The highlight was sitting on the beach at night, and all of the sudden fireworks started to explode over the water.

“ Perfect. Fireworks are going off on our first date.” I said, in a smartass way. Her English was okay, but I didn’t think she would get my reference.

“ Well, you do like romantic comedies.” she said, with a sly smile.

That was the moment I knew. She was mine and I was hers. She is different from anyone I have ever dated, but she is awesome. I am glad I was finally able to listen to my heart. Not my head ( big or little), not common sense, not a fear of being alone. None of those things factored into our connecting. The thing I am most happy about is she was my first and only internet date. I am retiring with a perfect record.

I will write another post about these fun people;  I think it is fascinating to see belief in a   conspiracy involving millions of people, just so one guy can be President ( for 4 years.)

There is no fraud. Why do you jump from gotcha moment to gotcha moment? What happened to the 9th Circuit case? When will it be ruled on? What was the result of your case dealing with the fraud committed against in the Secretary of State election? What happened in the eligibility bills being pushed through in certain states? How long will it take for your followers to realize that you aim for new windmills before you tell them the truth about what happened to the old ones? 4.Orly you had a chance of being on National TV and you didn’t mention that Obama is using a social security number?  This birth certificate deal, although you have a case, in people’s minds it is a done deal.  Most people were convinced by the forgery Obama showed.  Now, if you tell the people that Obama is using a stolen social security number and any investigator can prove it, that’s something right there.  If you say something like “Oh my God, the United States is in trouble.  Obama is using a stolen social security number.  Please help me bring this fraudster to justice”, that’s something more believable and will get people fired up

5.This local news story seems fairly objective, I am amazed Fox News aired it. They usally go out of their way to bash and discredit birthers. Too bad it was only a local story.

Isn’t it odd that when Obama released his alleged Long Form Birth Certificate on April 27th it became a National Story, but when Orly Taitz brought a subpoena and a couple of experts to forensically examine the alleged birth certificate the Main Stream Media all turn a blind eye, and did not seem interested in reporting that the HI Dept of Health refused to comply with the subpoena?

How much more obvious can it be that they are hiding something?

What part of this is giving you the most trouble? Is it a “President” who orchestrates a kangaroo court with the help of now Maj. Gen. Horst and his lackey Col. Dear, dear Bob, it appears you wouldn’t know reality if you had your hand in a bucket of it….maybe if you got your head our of the sand or some other dark place you could start looking at FACTS.  Facts, in each of the cases you state, haven’t changed a bit, but aliegence does change and sad to say it has changed from the Constitution to a person.  Thank God for the tenacity of Orly that she will find at least one judge who still has his priorities well established that this corrupt regime will not be able to get to him and will do the right thing for this country and according to the “rule of law” will decide on the facts of the case.

What I find it hard to understand with you people is if Orly is so wrong in what she is saying wouldn’t the production of the paperwork she is requesting shut her up?  Seems to me this would be your goal: produce and shut her up!  But, NO!  All you can do is condem without any facts to back up your contensions!!  Pretty weak case you present: which is either the case of a simple minded or minded simply to distort.

This is my response, which I did see posted today. Again, this is only the 2nd time I have been allowed to post on this site.I do not follow this story to belittle people or try to show superiority in any way. I have a problem with people who remain willfully ignorant.

Not an Obama supporter. Not delusional. Not a troll paid by Soros ( really, talk about delusional). Just a veteran confused by the obfuscation performed by the creator of this site. Here are the facts. The President was born in Hawaii. There is no mention of Vattel in any Supreme Court ruling. The 14th amendment states the qualification for natural born citizen. In America, it is innocent until proven guilty; yet you people seem to expect the president to prove his innocence to you. I am curious to know how a person’s Selective Service Card could be obtained by a third party with the SSN intact. Usually such sensitive information would be redacted. The onus is on you to prove his guilt.The current state of affairs shows that he is innocent.Birthers can not prove his guilt, after 3 years  and lots of trying( whatever happened to the Kenyan B.C?). Conspiracy is easy. Relativity is easy. If I am wrong, I would be happy to apologize. Can anyone attacking my character on the basis of my opinion make the same pledge?

Where do you find that in the Amendment?

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

Obama was born in Hawaii, The 50th state. He is a natural born citizen of the U.S.

How clear do you want me to make it?

The Constitution does not define the term natural born citizen. Check the Supreme Court decisions that deal with this issue.  Wong 1899

Name one Supreme Court decision that gives that interpretation for the 14th. Seriously, do some research. Check the cases that deal with the 14th. There is a reason no court has ever ruled in the favor of the birthers. There is no legal precedent. Minor v Haberstat 1875 does not exclude U.S citizens born of one foreign parent. It is great that you want to interpret the Constitution to suit your own bias, but it is not based in real law. The courts rule against the birthers because you have no proof.

I doubt this will be posted because it is your group that is scared of the truth. Prove me wrong.

You are innocent until proven guilty. And you are not hired until proven eligible. We do not have to prove Obama is eligible, he does. He has, in fact, declared himself ineligible. He claims to have a foreign father, which disqualifies him, and he knoes it, the democratic party knows it, Soros knows it and Hawaii knows it. If a citizen sees somebody committing a felony, it is their obligation to report it, otherwise their silence makes them complicit. Do you have a problem, Bob, with people reporting a crime? Obama has been found to be using social security numbers not issued to him by two licensed investigators who stand by what they have found and are willing to enter a court and make their case. Obama is not courageous enough to stand up for himself in a court, because he knows he would walk out not the president. He has only one choice, to keep dancing around the court issues and stay out of court. Why would you support anybody doing that, Bob? Why would you not want licensed investigators discovering fraud to be able to prosecute in a court of law. Yes, you are innocent until proven guilty, and that is why innocent and guilty people are brought into court and given a chance to defend themselves. Do you not believe in the American court system, Bob? You figure felonious behavior is okay and should not be stopped? Evidently.

Please point out where having a foreign father excludes a person from the office of the President. Please explain the felony being committed. The President has not been found to be using a fraudulent SSN. Some people with an agenda claim he is using such a card. If there was any merit to the case, it would have been heard already. I have been very patient in these posts, and I am still waiting for the proof of the claims put forth by the birther community. I am also waiting for a post I wrote in response to Michael to be accepted. I am very impressed with the moderator courage in letting some truth shine here. Like I have previously states; If I am wrong, I will apologize. So far, all I have seen is rumor and innuendo. The President has won in every court case without having to appear. I guess my primary question is: how big is this conspiracy? Also, can it be proven?

Madness is universal

The gun smoke is still lingering in Oslo and the finger-pointing has already begun.People, who could not  find Norway on a map of Europe, are opining on the killer(s) political and religious belief systems. I would really love to meet these people. I imagine they were great in school. The teacher would announce a test the next day, and these hard chargers would come in with the answer sheet; before the teacher handed out the test. Who cares about facts when you have a gut feeling. Too bad they can’t use this prescient knowledge to prevent tragedy.

Of course, some people think they have such knowledge and the answer is to keep them all locked up, or worse the answer is to kill them all. Whoever the them may be. For some, the world is a struggle between us and them. A war against the us will continue to rage for them; the some. This is the type of attitude that works great in athletics, but not so much in the world. It would be nice to think  that We the People is not limited to those who share  a common belief system.

Which brings me back to Norway. The latest news I read, a few minutes ago, was that the gunman is in custody. He has been described in the news as a native Norwegian with extremist right-wing  views. He is also reported to hold anti-Muslim views. He is more McVeigh than Bin laden. I feel a twinge of guilt for the sigh of relief that came out of me when I read that he was a homegrown madman. I am glad  innocent Muslims around the world, and in Norway especially, will not have to pay the price for the actions of this madman. I wonder if politically conservative people in Norway will have to worry about reprisals because a mass-murderer killed for an extreme belief in their political ideology.

In North Korea the government sends whole families to concentration camps for the indiscretions of a single person. Even if said indiscretion is more fiction than fact. I can’t imagine a rumor about my cousin resulting in my incarceration. The rush to blame all muslims for the acts of a few is insane. I really hope that the majority of Americans don’t paint other cultures with the broad strokes I see on comment boards. To say what all members of a group believe based on the words of a few, is irresponsible. I hope I didn’t generalize too much.
